Madonna Louise Ciccone, (born August 16, 1958), better known as Madonna, is an American dance-pop singer-songwriter, record and film producer, dancer, actress, author and fashion icon. She is noted for her ambitious music videos and stage performances as well as using political, sexual, and religious themes in her work.
The Guinness World Records names Madonna as the most self-made female recording artist ever. She's sold an approximated 200 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide. Madonna is the highest earning female vocalist ever according to both the 2006 - 2008 , Billboard Magazine and Guinness Book of Records.

Madonna Louise Ciccone was born in Bay City, Michigan. She was the third of eight children (her siblings are Martin, Anthony, Christopher, Paula, Melanie, Mario, and Jennifer) born to Silvio "Tony" Ciccone, an Italian-American Chrysler engineer whose parents originated from Pacentro, and Madonna Louise Fortin, who was of Quebecois ancestry.
She was brought up in a Catholic family in the Detroit suburbs of Pontiac and Avon Township (nowadays Rochester Hills). Madonna's mother passed away of breast cancer at age thirty on December 1, 1963. Her father afterwards married the family housekeeper, Joan Gustafson, and they had two children together.
